From Rome, this is a highly unusual buffet with an extravagantly hand carved rotating front panel. The inside left section has a cut out shelf, which allows it to swivel inward. The right interior section has a full shelf. The thick carved front panel is typical of Baroque furniture coming from Italy in the 17th Century. The panel is an incredibly ornate scene of a half woman, half foliate form ending in a scrolling trumpet on both sides. She is holding onto the legs of winged dragons or chimera, shown above her to the left and right. The cabinet’s form is stepped out on both sides of the front. Standing on these portions are Atlases upholding capitals. The sides of the furniture have large iron handles. All this rests upon beautiful floral and foliate front feet and shaped back feet. Versatile in its uses, this buffet/credenza from Rome will be the center of attention wherever it is placed.
CONDITION: Good condition with old nicks, abrasions, minor losses. Hole made in back panel for old electrical wire
