Code 214-56 Painted Antique Liegoise Dining Table from the Early 1900s
This is a spectacular large painted table from Liege. It is in the Louis XV style and has been recently painted in the most subtle and wonderful finish. It is in shades of that French pale grey/ blue/green color, that is not only difficult to identify but also to master mixing. The ageing of the paint finish was done by a master artisan.
The top is a faux marble with an incised, banded, interlocking star at the center and incised florets at each shaped corner, imitating marquetry. Incised, shaded bands surround the periphery of the tabletop. The apron features white shells at the center with scrolling foliate motifs off to either side. Small scrolling, foliate, linear moldings in white underscore the four shaped sides of the table. The knees of the table have stylized shell moldings over a cartouche and the feet are acanthus leaf hooves.
CONDITION: Rubs, and nicks to paint and wood.
