This unusual pedestal is carved from European Oak, and is adorned with large scroll and shell motifs. It comes from Liege, where furnishings were heavily influenced by French styles, but also had their own lightness of carving and often incorporated angular lines. This pedestal or console has a slightly curved front with stepped out canted corners and canted sides. Large acanthus leaf volutes and shells are at the top and bottom of the piece. It is perfect size for a bust or another piece of sculptural artwork. The piece has a hollowed out back, which would make it a fantastic option for a hostess stand at a restaurant..
CONDITION: Good condition with old repairs, minor age separations, minor rubs and nicks. Recently finished in a cream parcel paint finish.
