This Period Louis XV walnut wood mantel has an "arbalete" , or bow front silhouette to its front frieze. The top is over a conforming body and has an overhang of an inch on all sides. The back center has a rectangular cutout for the chimney. There are motifs of a central stylized shell and raffle leaf acanthus on the front. The mantel's ornamentation has raised frontal panels to either side of the motifs with shaped and elongated c-scrolls at the bottom of the frieze. The canted corners have a rocaille shell near the top with asymmetrical narrow panels beneath. The paneled sides are horizontal and vertical with the left side having a small panel at the bottom for perhaps modern day electricity.
