Antique Table with Portuguese Tiles and Spanish Renaissance Base
This fabulous antique table found in France has the most beautiful antique tile top with acanthus leaf motifs on an antique base with corresponding motifs. It is Spanish Renaissance in style with the base dating to the late 1700's. The top, inset with antique Portuguese tiles, dates from the early to mid 1800's.
The antique tiles on the top have acanthus leaf, quatrefoil , and stylized floret motifs. Their colors are deep blue, orange and a black brown on a white ground. The tiles are surrounded by and level with a walnut wood border. The antique walnut wood base features a gadrooned lobed urn at either end with foliate and c-scroll ornamentation. The stretcher has elongated open field panels ending in double c-scrolls and there is a central stylized oval shield form between these panels. The feet are acanthus leaf volutes .
This versatile antique tile table can seat 4-6 people depending upon the width of the chair seats. It can also be displayed as a center table or entrance table. Condition: Old restorations and some cracking and chipping to tiles; rubs and nicks to wood commensurate with age.
