Code 212-1 Antique Painted Cast Iron French Torchere, C. 1870
This elegant, antique Louis XVI style painted cast iron torchere can be used inside or out. Classical, architectural, human faces, and elements of natural derivation are all dominant motifs throughout the entire torchere. All this rests upon a pedestal form with fluting on the top and bottom ending in stiff leaf motifs. At the top of the central fluted shaft are two female masks connected with drapery swags. The fluted shaft ends in stiff leaf acanthus atop another urn having twisted flutes with a fluted base. The tripod base has floral margent of bellflowers interspersed between linear coin molding resting upon tulip shaped feet.
At some point in history, this torchere was given French electrification.
