Hand-carved from 43 Estaillade stones in Provence, France, this limestone wall fountain is quite unique.
18 stones comprise the high wall with a double cavetto molding on the cornice. A 6 ½ inch stone spout has been carved in the middle of the wall. The wall has a canted bottom that rests on the back basin wall. The large, rectangular basin is made of 19 stones, with the top ledge of the front and sides sloping inward slightly. The corner stones (where the front and sides meet) are angled on the interior side, giving the linear basin extra character.
Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of the wall fountain is the shorter wall next to the spouted back wall. The shorter wall is seven inches shorter and not quite as deep as the neighboring stones. Instead of a double-edged molding, the smaller wall has the traditional cavetto molding on the underside. It also has a canted bottom that sits on the back basin wall. Near the top of the wall is a 12 x 20 ledged niche cutout with an arched top. There are eight stones total in this wall, although two of them are continued from stones of the larger wall.
This unique Provencal stone wall fountain with arched niche would look great in any garden setting. The fountain can stand alone or be used with a plant or small statue in the niche.
CONDITION: Very good condition with intentional distress to stone. Stone is natural material that can become darker or lighter from the elements.
