The city of Nimes, France, was once a regional capital of the Roman Empire and some original architecture can still be found there to this day. Our limestone wall fountain is from nearby Provence and has been inspired by an original stone fountain that was seen in the city of Nimes.

Comprised of eight pieces of hand-carved limestone, the wall fountain seamlessly blends clean lines with the large gadrooned basin. The crown is comprised of two stones that have classically styled cavetto moldings which extend beyond the stones below. There are three stones that form the back wall, each adorned with fluting, reminiscent of a classic order column. The top stone also has a shaped carving that forms the entablature of the columns, while the middle piece has a small cutout that houses the small iron spout.

The semicircular basin is adorned with large lobes of gadrooning beneath a thick in cut rim. Underneath the basin is a large noix (French for “nut”) with a ball terminal, which is a carving on the face of the stone below the basin. This stone and the one below it are large rectangular blocks that are still mortared together, providing a strong base. Our Provence carved limestone wall fountain has been masterfully distressed and patinated. It is roughly 20-25 years old and can be used inside or outdoors.

CONDITION: Intentional distress marks including nicks and chips to mimic antiquity. Minor rubs and buildup from previous use. Visible mortar in some areas from previous installation, with the bottom two stones still attached to each other. Stone is a natural material that can change color with exposure to the elements.
