This vibrant antique tapestry fragment is a depiction of two women in a park setting adjacent to a chateau and its grounds. It has been woven in mostly silk, with some wool, and a contemporary two tone border has been added. Unlike many tapestries of this period, this example has been very well preserved, and the details are shown clearly, with full of color.
The tapestry depicts a chateau in the very back of the scene, with an aqueduct separating it from the figures in the foreground. The beautiful Chateau park is complete with several Jardins a La Francaise, a large stone wall fountain with lion head spouts, a center fountain with a gilded winged cherub and Bernese dolphin, a potted orange tree, and lush green trees. The gardens are bordered with small cypress trees, and separated by crushed stone walkways. The two main women of the scene are discussing and gesturing to their left. Two more women are seated lower and to their left. Their robes, jewels, and sandals are well detailed and colored in blues, reds, orange, green, and more.
This well preserved antique French tapestry will add color, texture, and richness to any area it is placed.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor section restorations and loose section stitches.
