This simple, yet elegant antique table from France dates to the mid to late 1600's (top planks possibly later). The table is solid hand carved oak, and consists of a top made with 4 long vertical planks, supported by a 3 turned balusters at each end. They stand on platform feet and are connected by a thick full length stretcher. The very old wood is full of character and has a warm French wax patina. The table can be used a console table, large writing table, or, depending on number of chairs and chair size, a dining table. It would sit six people.
In 17th century France, regional furniture makers were not yet too heavily influenced by the styles coming out of Paris. This means, the furniture often remained simple in design, and today, it can be used with a variety of interiors.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with nicks and minor losses to wood as seen in photos. Top planks may have been added later. Restorations.
