This elegant period Regence wall console has the original, shaped marble top over a conforming frieze that has deeply carved acanthus leaf and shell motifs. The shaped sides, narrow in front and wider at the back continue with more deeply carved acanthus leaf motifs. The sinuous, attenuated s-scroll legs end in acanthus leaf scrolls, with out-turned hoof feet. Notice where the legs begin under the frieze, there is a small, gracefully turned c-scroll. Throughout this piece, small details such as this indicate it was executed at the hands of a master. There is a stylized pilaster at the back center with a raised round motif at the middle. A small shelf connects this piece to the two front legs at their narrowest point.
The design of this console is very elegant, a particular attribute to the furniture in the Regence period. Examples of period Regence furnishings are rare, and the patina on this console is quite striking. This small wall console with its original marble top will be a fabulous addition to any home.
