Rare Period Louis XIII Buffet, Circa 1630
This is a rare, period Louis XIII three drawer buffet. His reign in France was from 1610 – 1643.
Louis XIII furniture was geometric in appearance, but could often reflect the previous period's motifs as is the case in the buffet. It is adorned with masks, mascarons, floral pendants and various foliate motifs. Various types of veneers, including faux tortoiseshell and ebony have been used around the door panels. There are three drawers beneath the top and three doors with busts at the center. All this rests upon a pedestal style base with acanthus leaf blocks interspersed.
This beautiful and rare period Louis XIII buffet will be the focal point of any area it is placed in.
CONDITION: Good. Age separations, rub, nicks, minor losses of wood, wear and losses to some motifs. Top has openings to what probably was another section. Old markings to top.
