Classically inspired and hand-carved in Le Vaucluse, a department in Southern France within the Provence region, this majestic wall fountain is comprised of 22 pieces of Estaillade limestone.

The large crown features cavetto molding, sometimes referred to as an “Egyptian cornice”, which was also popular in ancient Greek architecture. Beneath the crown is an adorned frieze followed by a raised architrave. These three elements combined are known as the entablature and are of the Tuscan order.

A decorative iron backplate featuring a rosette center surrounded by scrolls, shells, and a pierced leaf margent is in the center of the indented back wall. A scrolled iron spout emanates from the center of the rosette, allowing water to flow into the half-octagonal basin. The basin has sharp undercuts on the lips of each basin stone, giving the basin a more rounded feel.

Two stylized half columns have been carved in relief into the back wall, flanking the grooved molding that surrounds the recessed section. To the outside of each column is a sinuous, scrolled corbel that once again borrows from classical civilizations.

French artisan finishing techniques have been utilized to mimic the appearance of age. Afterward, the stone was given a warm and subtle patina. This versatile limestone wall fountain from Le Vaucluse can be used inside or outside.

CONDITION: Natural stone. Minor chips and intentional distress marks with a varying and weathered patina which evolve over time (if placed outdoors). Light oxidation to the iron spout, which has added color to the stone below.
