Code 1112-6 Pair of Antique Louis XIV Style Silvered Bronze Andirons
This pair of antique silvered bronze andirons has highly detailed repousse of floral and foliate motifs. The ornamentation from the top down is a series of waisted lobed forms growing increasing larger as they go down to the center. At the center, a repousse band of varying masks and busts rests between two stylized lobed and foliate cups. Beneath this is an indented spherical form which rests upon a square base with crossed ribbons and laurel leaves surrounding the top. The tripod base has volutes to either side of a cartouche. Beneath the volutes are stylized dolphins for the feet . Acanthus leaf c-scrolls surround an oval center shield. Crinkled ribbons uphold a laurel leaf wreath that surrounds the shield.This magnificent pair of antique French silvered bronze andirons will be a wonderful addition to any hearth.
Condition: Remnants of old silver polish throughout; minor rubs and scratching to surfaces; small hole to surface.
