Hand Painted French Platter Depicting an English Hunt Scene, 1900s
This antique ceramic platter has a central hand painted hunting scene and originates from Northern Brittany. There is an irregular border surrounding the scene that has insets of raised hand painted sections. The scene is that of a classic English fox hunt, with it's roots and popularity going back to the 16th century. The rim of the platter has a raffle leaf border, typical of the Rococo style. There are small pierced holes interspersed throughout the border. These hand painted platters were used for display purposes on the wall or in a display cabinet.
