Code 1007-6A Antique Country French Kitchen Buffet from the Early 1800s
This Louis XV Style buffet was built in the early 19th century. We are considering it Louis XV style because of the beautiful scrolling rocaille motifs on the two front cabinet doors. However, it also has straight lined sides and a useful lower rack area, which would have served well in a country kitchen. It's very rare to find a buffet with a lower storage area like this. The bottom rack might have served as a plate rack or maybe even firewood storage. The old Oak has a beautiful patina that has been covered with a light sealer. Construction techniques are dowels, dovetails, and even old iron nails. Between the doors are three drawers with brass hardware. The depth of this buffet is only 18-1/2” which is wonderful for smaller areas.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor age separations, nicks and scratches to wood. Older and more recent restorations..
