Original oil on canvas painting by a Russian American artist Boris Mandrovsky (1916-1976). Boris Mandrovsky was a Renaissance man, an artist, translator, art history expert and biologist. He fled the Russian Revolution with his family, came to the United State in 1923. He studied art in France at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiers, in teh US at George Washington University, and at the Corcoran. He has worked for the Library of Congress as well as the Chief translator for the NASA Soyuz project.
This is a wonderful cubist still life with hand model, mandolin, frame, utensils and fruit. Great color combination, bold shapes and powerful lines create an immediacy to the scene. Wonderful example of mid century modernism! Signed on back.
