This is a wonderful rare work by a famous surrealist artist/ photographer Val Telberg (1910-1995). Val Telberg was born in Moscow, Russia, spent his youth in China, and eventually came to the US. He studied at the Art Student's League in NY, where he encountered surrealism which strongly influenced his work. Although he is mostly known for his surreal photomontages, he was also an artist and a sculptor. This painting is an emotional study of a family, a tight dynamic enclosure formed by the bodied of parents around a feeding baby is at once tender and hostile to outside influences. Amazing cubist piece! Signed in lower right corner "Telberg /Spring 1946".
Val Telberg's works is part of collections at such prestigious institutions as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Metropolitan Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum and others.
