Beautiful original work by a distinguished English artist Gerald Cooper (1898-1975).
Gerald Cooper was born in West Bromwich, served in the WWI, and after his return attended the West Bromwich Art School and later, Royal College of Art. He settled in Wimbledon, where he eventually taught and became the principal of the Wimbledon School of Art.
This beautiful still life is alive with colors and stunning detail. Painted in the Dutch tradition, the vibrant flowers are bursting out of the subdued darkened background for an effervescent and naturalistic effect. It is simply a gorgeous masterful work. Singed in lower right corner "Gerald Cooper".
