Japanese doll swivel head Emperor Girls or Boys Day Festival doll with fine white oyster shell gofun head and wooden hands painted white. The material used on the face is white and extremely fine and smooth to the touch. The arms have limited movement, the purple and gold brocade fabric robe is crisp and stiff and inhibits movement. The green fabric forms a pillow and contains a wooden platform insert for a firm seated base.
He measures 10.5 inches tall ( not including cap) and 16.5 inches wide. There is mild fading to the costume. The mouth is open/closed with painted dots for upper teeth. The nostrils are closed. There is a crease in the eyelids and the eyelids are tinted mauve. The eyebrows are painted and have a rub to the left eyebrow. The hair ( floss?) is tucked up under the cap. The cap feels like a molded paper and is painted black.
The lip paint has losses and there is fine surface line along the mold seam at the right neck as shown in the close-up group.
At the back, there is a belt made of stiff navy oilcloth with some cracks and creases. It supports a folded length of purple brocade fabric. The color of the purple brocade is much brighter in the folds and on underside of the material.
