Antique miniature ornately hand tooled thick leather domed top trunk, box, or chest in petite doll size. It is entirely made of a very thick 1/8th of an inch and wonderful tooled dark brown leather with laced leather sides and tongue loop closure. The decoration is deeply impressed and appears on all sides except for the plain bottom and the interior. The design is repeated on all sides with the larger pattern on the top with a center cross. I am not sure what to call this pattern. There are "C" scrolls, repeating "X" and dots within a block. It measures 6.5 inch wide, 4 inches tall and 4 inches deep. As seen, there are two crescent shaped pieces of leather loose - they were attached at the sides of the trunk's dome top with tiny brads or nails which are still intact. These are to cover the space on the sides made by the domed top. The tongue closure is made in one piece with the domed top. The loop is attached through the leather and tied in a tight knot on the reverse side. The sides are jointed by leather laces which are knotted on the interior. The interior is unlined and has old stains. This has been part of my collection and displayed with the dolls since the late 1970's. It was purchased second hand in Vermont at a show or antique shop and it was old at that time. I do not know the actual age or country origin.
