Amazing Brown Transferware Plate ~ ANEMONE 1880

FLOWERING ANEMONE with BIRDS

WIND FLOWER ~ BUTTERCUP FAMILY

Choisy le Roi

Luneville, France

c 1880

This stunning transferware plate is a wonderful piece of 19th century transferware! The plate measures 9 3/4 " in diameter and is transfer printed in chocolate brown.

It is imaginatively decorated with a twig rope with small leaves along the rim encircling three Birds on a branch chatting about the beauty and size of the gorgeous spring Anemone flower. The image is based on a gorgeous 19th century copperplate engraving.

The piece resembles the transferware made in the Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid 19th century, but instead it was made by Choisy le Roi (late Creil Monereau) one of the faienceries in the Luneville region of France. French aesthetic pottery is full of whimsy and usually birds, flowers or fruit.

Condition is EXCELLENT, clean shiny and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
