TULIP FLOWERS WITH SINGING BIRDS
Choisy le Roi
This stunning transferware plate is a wonderful piece of 19th century transferware! The large plate measures 9 3/4 " in diameter and is transfer printed in chocolate brown.
It is imaginatively decorated with a twig rope with small leaves along the rim encompassing three Songbirds busily heralding the days of spring blooms. An oversized Tulip in bud and bloom stand out on this spectacular plate. The image is based on a gorgeous copperplate engraving.
The piece resembles the transferware made in the Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid 19th century, but instead it was made by Choisy le Roi (late Creil Monereau) one of the faienceries in the Luneville region of France. French aesthetic pottery is full of whimsy and usually birds, flowers or fruit.
Condition is EXCELLENT, clean shiny and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Light utensil wear.
