Brown Transferware Plate ~ FIG & GOOSEBERRIES 1880
CHESTNUTS & FIGS
Choisy le Roi
Luneville, France
c 1880
This stunning transferware plate is a wonderful piece of 19th century transferware! The plate measures 8 1/8 " in diameter and is transfer printed in chocolate brown.
The image is based on a gorgeous copperplate engraving and features a repeating chain border of flowers and foliage. A tropical branch of plump ripe figs and their lovely leaves are mixed with sprigs of Chestnuts in their spiny husks and juicy Raspberries hanging off their canes complete this wonderful piece.
The piece resembles the transferware made in the Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid 19th century, but instead it was made by Choisy le Roi (late Creil Monereau) one of the faienceries in the Luneville region of France. French aesthetic pottery is full of whimsy and usually birds, flowers or fruit.
Condition is EXCELLENT, clean shiny and bright, appears to have never been used. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
