Stick Spatter Rabbitware Ironstone CHARGER Platter ~ 1900
Staffordshire, England ~ c.1900
This is a large colorful hand painted transferware round charger platter, c. 1900. Very little is known about the actual origin of these wonderfully whimsical rabbit wares.
Rabbitware is a combination of transfer printing and stick sponge or spatterware. The three rabbits and frog in the center of this 12-3/4 ” charger are transfer printed in brown and painted with enamels in yellow, brown and green. The border is painted in the Virginia Rose pattern. A charger is a rare form in this highly collected art form.
The piece is in outstanding condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. Heavy substantial piece.
