This original late 19th century/ early 20th century ironstone STANDARD YEAST display stand dates to c 1890 - 1910. Originally used for displaying yeast, butter, margarine, cheeses and other dairy products on the grocer’s shop counter. It measures 14 1/2” long and 10 1/2” across and 3 1/4” tall and has a concave well.
The decorative advertising is transfer-printed in black and underneath the glaze on all four sides.
The stand maker is unknown. We have seen similar stands marked with stamps of Wedgwood, Doulton and MAW. A sturdy stand was meant for the heavy duty trade use and easily adaptable to a country kitchen or a contemporary cheese and wine shop.
The stand is in fabulous condition with only a 2” darkened craze line on the top. Bright and shiny and virtually no use. A rare piece of history in such pristine condition.
