VICTORIAN BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE

Minton Potteries

Staffordshire England
c. 1870

This early Victorian large 10 1/8 inch plate is transfer printed in dark brown against a creamy celadon background. A rare pattern design by Pierre Mallet and Leonce Goutard, the famous and prolific French designers and illustrators who produced naturalistic designs for Minton. This delightful rare plate combines the new Aesthetic influences of the 19th Century with a freer more naturalistic design and the use of asymmetry along with the English love of nature.

Never Used. Good condition with a stabilized crack off the rim. Fabulous artistic hand painting.
