Staffordshire Red Transferware Plate

MILLENIUM PATTERN
PEACEABLE KINGDOM ~ LION AND LAMB
Ralph Stevenson Potteries
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1825

This highly prized red transferware plate, c 1825, measures 7 3/4 " in diameter across the scalloped rim. The plate is beautifully potted and finely transfer printed with a pearlware glaze. Great Size.
The central image depicts the biblical prophecy set forth in the book of Isaiah, Chap. XI.VI, of a Peaceable Kingdom, the thousand years of peace under the reign of Christ. The top of the plate show the all seeing eye of God and the biblical reference. The center of the plate shows a lion laying down with a lamb and the beasts of the wild (including a cow, fox, goat and jaguar) led by a child. The image is surrounded by the caption "Peace on Earth" and "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread". The border of the plate is decorated with fruit and flowers. Lovely sentiment and imagery perfect for this time of year.
The plate was made by Ralph Stevenson, a pottery maker in the Staffordshire district of England in the early to mid-19th century. The pattern name is "Millenium", a misspelling of the word Millennium.
The plate is in great condition with no chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
