These early outstanding plates are transfer printed dark cobalt blue with the ponding of a pearlware glaze.
The large 10 1/8 " plates feature a central medallion features a mighty lion preying on a distant wildebeast. The inside rim cartouches are of mountain scenes with a pair of deer, a pair of shaggy horses, two goats and their two kids, and a pair of zebras with and ostridge. Floral baskets, inverted shells and scrolling compliment and complete this marvelous plate.
The condition is great, very clean with no chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. A few utensil marks and a few kiln stilt marks.
