4 Polychrome Transferware Cups and Saucers

These fabulous cup and saucer sets, crisply transfer printed in brown and hand embellished with underglaze enamel paints in cobalt blue , yellow and green with an ochre rim. The cups stands 2 1/2" tall and the saucers measures 4 3/4” in diameter. The set is decorated in an Art Deco pattern with a naturalistic inspiration, a kaleidoscopic design of stylized sunflowers and feathers.
The decoration is brilliant, with vivid contrasting colors and forms. The set was made by Brownfields Pottery, c. 1880, in the Staffordshire region of England. It is marked with an impressed "IVORY" and a decorator's marks, and no other maker's marks. The set came from a collection that was auctioned at Christie's New York in December 2006, sale number 1757, lot number 438.
