Stunning Polychrome Transferware Dinner Centerpiece
Brownfield and Sons ~ Staffordshire, England ~ c. 1885
This is a fabulous fruit bowl / comport that is crisply transfer printed in brown with exciting hand colored under glaze painting in cobalt blue, green and golden orange lustre. The large piece measures 11 1/2 " wide including handles x 4 3/4 " tall. The piece is decorated in an Art Deco pattern with a naturalistic inspiration, a kaleidoscopic design of stylized feathers and geometric designs. A true centerpiece for any table decor.
The decoration is brilliant and exciting. The piece was made by Brownfield Potteries in the Staffordshire region of England. It is marked with decorator's marks.
Never Used. The piece is in great condition, bright clean and shiny. Three normal stilt marks to the bottom of the well and two short hairlines off the rim. Early large pieces in this wonderful pattern don't come along often, and the contrast and composition is especially beautiful.
