Scarce Staffordshire Transferware Plate

ORIENTAL BIRDS

John Ridgway Staffordshire England c.1836

This is a spectacular transferware dinner plate, c. 1836 in the ORIENTAL BIRDS pattern. One of the prettiest nature patterns combining elements of Ornithology and Botany. The plate measures 10-1/4” in diameter with a scalloped rim and 12 sprigs adjoining floral reserves. The plate was impeccably potted and finely transfer printed in earthy sepia or chocolate brown.

The plate depicts three exotic birds sitting in a tree surrounded by floral reserves. The Oriental Birds pattern has been written about in the Transferware Collectors Club database.

The plate is great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Very insignificant manufacturing imperfections. Appears to be unused. Offered as is. Gorgeous!
