These stunning transferware plates date to 1883. The large size dinner plates measures 10 1/4 " in diameter. The color is a rich sepia or wonderful dark chocolate brown with under glaze painting in blue, golden yellow, two shades of green and red . The pattern is named PALMYRA, featuring a fantastic wide, busy band of sunflowers with a background of geometric shapes. The well of the plate has a central flower pot full of oversized sunflowers surrounded by rows of buttercups and geometrical flourishes.
The pieces are marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name the intials S. H. that identifies the maker as Sampson Hancock, a pottery maker working in the Staffordshire region of England from 1858-1891.
The plates are in EXCELLENT condition, clean shiny and bright. There are no chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
