Rare shaped Melbourne Dessert Platter 1880
STAFFORDSHIRE POLYCHROME DESSERT PLATTER
GILDEA AND WALKER POTTERIES
Tunstall, Staffordshire England c. 1880
This early outstanding 14 " long x 8 7/8 " wide platter with molded handles is transfer printed in black and enhanced with red and golden luster.
Capturing the Victorian love of nature during the aesthetic movement, this platter is transfer printed with a geometric designs, the sun coming over the horizon, a flock of songbirds, sailboats, flowers and bamboo, a dog watching an egret drinking from a necked vessel. My favorite pattern in aesthetic transferware, it has everything.
The condition of this delightful platter is very good with a small chip to the back of one corner.
