Genuine Victorian Transfer Printed
POTTED MEATS PASTE POT
Cunningham and De Fourier
England c. 1890
This is a wonderful English Victorian pot that once held potted meat, ox tongues or brisket, brawn or pate'. Cooked and reduced to a concentrate, similar to modern day Spam, made of heaven knows what type of meats. Preservation was a must before refrigeration, these pots were popular as they were able to preserve their foods for consumption at any time of the year and these meat pots fit the bill, a bit of wax and cover on top.
The piece is in great condition. 3 1/2 " tall x 2 1/8 " wide. One of the best we have seen. The piece will make a great addition to any collection of transfer printed advertising wares.
