E. & G. PHILIPS POTTERIES Staffordshire England 1822 - 1834
This incredible large 10 3/4 " plate is transfer printed in a rich red.
The Africana pattern is incredibly scarce. Scalloped border, transfers of beading, teardrops, a goddess in a fancy boat pulled by swans, pairs of large peony type flowers, and spigs of floral bouquets, all surrounding two smiling lions, one standing and one recumbent. Meandering stream and a castle background. The underside bears a transfer printed maker's mark with the pattern name.
Condition is great. Clean and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
