AESTHETIC MOVEMENT BROWN TRANSFERWARE CAKE or BISCUIT PLATE
Edge and Malkin Potteries
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1884
This Victorian aesthetic 9 1/2 inch cake or tea biscuit plate is transfer printed in luscious brown. The pattern features rich and wildly exotic geometric designs with a plethora of flowers and foliage. Birds and butterflies, flowers and a lake scene blend with the cartouches of a water bird and a sailing vessel out to sea. The designs are the height of the aesthetic movement.
