2 Polychrome Transferware Plates

JAPONICA SPRIG
Wedgwood Potteries

Staffordshire England c. 1886

These elegant plates measure 9 3/8" in diameter. Transfer printed in a rich sepia brown and hand decorated with blue green and turquoise (or robin's egg blue) wisps, with a ochre hand painted rim. NYC retailer's mark.

Imaginatively stylized, the set is decorated with naturalistic Japanesque motif with colored dogwood flowers and palm leaves, examples of the simple elegance of Aesthetic movement design.

Excellent condition and are clean, shiny, and bright. A few flecks missing from the ochre rim. The plate will make a fine addition to any Aesthetic transferware or Art Deco collection.
