AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE

MOTHER HUBBARD ~ GIRL BLOWING BUBBLES

Old Hall Pottery

Hanley, Staffordshire England

c. 1885

This large earthenware Aesthetic Movement plate measures 10 ½” in diameter, transfer printed in brown with amazing under glaze hand painting in blue, green, pink and yellow with a gilt rim.

The pattern features 5 panels around the rim with magnificent blazing sun and quarter moons on urns with blueberries cascading above a swirling geometric background.  A central cartouche has a young girl in period dress blowing bubbles, with a well in behind her, all surrounded an oversized exotic leafy Blueberries. The design may be attributed to Christopher Dresser, who worked for the maker, Old Hall pottery, during the 1880’s, the period in which the plate was produced .

Never Used. Condition is EXCELLENT, clean and bright.  No chips, no cracks, no hairlines, no utensil marks and no repairs.
