LARGE AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE PLATTER
GILDEA AND WALKER POTTERIES
Tunstall, Staffordshire England ~ c. 1880
This early large outstanding 14 1/8 " long x 11 1/8 " wide platter is transfer printed in chocolate brown. The transfer is perfectly applied.
Capturing the Victorian love of nature during the aesthetic movement, this platter is transfer printed with imaginative geometric designs.
Also, the sun coming over the horizon, a flock of songbirds, sailboats, flowers and bamboo, an Great Owl perched upon a branch as the crescent moon and stars appear behind him. My favorite pattern in aesthetic transferware, it has everything !!
The condition of this delightful platter is EXCELLENT. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Clean shiny and bright. A pottery masterpiece !
