Unique compact by Elgin includes the original pouch and box. The compact features the emblem for the Order of the Eastern Star. It is in excellent overall condition; however there is no powder left. The box is in great condition; the pouch shows some wear.
The Order was created by Rob Morris in 1850 when he was teaching at the Eureka Masonic College in Richland, Mississippi. By 1855, he had organized a "Supreme Constellation" in New York, which chartered chapters throughout the United States. Today there are chapters worldwide with a membership of over 500,000. The emblem of the Order is a five-pointed star with the white ray of the star pointing downwards towards the Christ-child manger. The character-building lessons taught in the Order are stories inspired by female Biblical figures including Ruth, Esther, and Martha, sister of Mary and Lazarus.
