This remarkable modernist choker length necklace is signed with a number (161), Los Castillo, Taxco and Hecho in Mexico (made in Mexico). It features a pair of highly stylized hands which overlap at the central point of the choker. This fits very comfortably on the neck. The clasp is a push in style. I believe this wonderful necklace is made of brass. The Los Castillo workshop was founded in Taxco in 1939. At its height, the workshop employed over 350 artisans and designers. The Castillos were willing to experiment and they developed a variety of innovative techniques and design concepts. Many fine silversmiths worked for Los Castillo, including some who had been part of the famous Taller Border. In business for over 50 years, the remarkable variety of designs and the quality of production have inspired admiration for Los Castillo the world over.
