Signed clamper style bracelet and matching brooch were named "Leaflet" and the design was one of the most popular ever made by the company. The bracelet's inside measurement is 2 1/4 inches; the brooch is quite large and measures over 3 inches long by 2 inches wide. This set is enameled in a deep russet finish with cream colored spots; other sets in this series can be plain or enameled with green and black with white spots. This set (in the green/black finish) can be seen on page 260 of Jacqueline Rehmann's book entitled "Classic American Costume Jewelry." Both pieces are signed Matisse Renoir with the copyright symbol. There is a bit of wear on the clamper in the front where the two sections meet; otherwise condition is fine on both pieces. The company "Renoir of Hollywood" was founded by Jerry Fels in 1946 and was headquartered in Los Angeles. The name was later changed to Renoir of California, Inc. Matisse was founded a few years later in 1952. The company specialized in the manufacture of modernist jewelry designs and brightly colored and enameled copper jewelry brooches, clamper bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.
