Featuring a vintage faux tortoise compact with several mirrors that folds out as shown. This piece measures 4 inches by 4 inches and is in wonderful condition. The pansy transfer is perfect which is rare for these pieces. Unsigned and a wonderful find! In the 1920's, the Celluloid industry created a revolution. There were dozens of ways it could be used to simulate tortoise shell including for combs and compacts and its use saved the tortoise from extinction. That and the fact that women started cutting their hair and had no use for chignon combs. I'd date this compact to the early-mid 1930's.
