Impressive and highly collectible brooch from Schreiner features white opaque keystones surrounding a black center. I call it the "ebony and ivory" look. This brooch is enormous and measures 3 inches tall by 2 3/4 inches at its widest. It is very dimensional and sits 1 inch high. It is in fine shape and is signed on a cartouche on the back; it is difficult to see in the photographs but it is there. Many times these iconic brooches show up in the collectibles market unsigned, but not this one. It is an absolutely stunning piece; no wonder collectors covet it!
A little background: the company was in business from 1951-1977 and was started by Henry Schreiner who had worked before WWI for other jewelry companies. Once he started his own company, he quickly became known for his use of quality stones, unusual color combinations, reverse setting of rhinestones (point up instead of down) and hook and eye back construction. The pieces were made by hand and were known for their large, colorful, and eye-catching designs. This fantastic brooch is no exception!
