Gorgeous and detailed pansy brooch features colors of lilac and purple with a yellow topaz center in a rich, gold-plated setting. The pin is signed in the center on the back as shown "Nolan Miller" whose fashion jewelry has always been high quality and beautifully made. Condition is fine with no issues at all. This measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter.
The pansy has always been a popular motif in costume jewelry probably because it has had, through the centuries, many meanings. The name "pansy" is derived from the French word pensée, or "thought", and was considered a symbol of remembrance. The flower has many other names including "Hearts Ease" and "Football flower."
The pansy is also a robust flower which is usually planted (here in the Eastern part of the U.S.) during the chilly months in fall and spring. It has been cultivated in many rich and beautiful colors including yellow, gold, orange, purple, violet, red, white, and near-black which is really a very dark purple.
