For sale is this OLD Sterling Silver Wide Double "Cross in a Circle" Southwestern Ring. It measures over 1/2" from north to south and has the appearance of two rings. Both have the cross in a circle symbol as well as other etchings on the shoulders. Some believe that the sacred circle filled with a cross (four equal lines pointing from the center to the spirits of the north, east, south, and west) symbolize the basic element: earth, water, air (or wind), and fire. In Native American traditions, it forms the basic pattern of the MEDICINE WHEEL and plays a vital part in major spiritual rituals. The shank appears to be misshapen, but this is not the case, it was intentionally made flat by the artist. Because of this shape it is difficult to get an exact size, but it is currently about a 4.-5. It weighs a hefty grams and is solid sterling silver. It has been tested to be sterling silver and has heavy patina found on older items. I believe this dates to the early 1900's.
