For sale is this really extraordinary, circa 1860's, 10k yellow gold, diamonds and sapphires brooch. The pin measures 1 5/8" wide, x 1 1/4" high and is set with a large rose, closed back or foiled diamond in the center flanked by eight open back, rose cut diamonds in heart shaped petals. Surrounding this center flower are thirteen more open back, rose cut diamonds and three genuine faceted sapphires. The center diamond measures 1/4" wide and gives the illusion of being a large diamond (approx. .85 carats), but without removing the stone there is no way to give the exact carat weight. Because the surrounding 21 rose cut diamonds are all of different sizes and shapes, it's not very feasible to give a carat weight for them either, but they are not damaged or cracked and sparkle like only rose cut diamonds do. The sapphires weigh about 1/4 carat each and one is a tad lighter in color than the other two. The only tiny flaw is that a "wanna be" jeweler attempted to put a loop on the back of the pin and dripped solder on it. I removed the loop as it was pretty tacky, but I didn't want to remove the solder in fear of damaging the pin. The solder is not repairing it at all, it's just residue left from the loop. Condition: very good, with no damage Weight: 7.4 grams Age: Circa 1860's, possibly earlier Note: Diamonds are set in silver and carat weight would be difficult to estimate because of size and settings.
