For sale is this very pretty, circa late 1800's, gold filled Victorian necklace with a Black Hills Gold motif on the crossbar/clasp. The locket measures almost 1" wide X 1 1/2" long and has a different design on front and back. One frame inside the locket will hold a picture securely and the locket closes with a snap and no gaps. The chain and crossbar/clasp measure just over 20" long and it has a thick flexible link chain. The hidden clasp works perfectly and holds securely and the locket has no dents or dings. The piece weighs 22.5 grams. Black Hills gold was first created in the 1870s during the Black Hills Gold Rush and the jewelry depicts leaves, grape clusters and vines made with alloys of gold with standard yellow gold as well as green and pink gold. This was undoubtedly one of the first creations from that mine.
