Although it resembles genuine ebony wood, this circa 1890's necklace is too light to be made from that material. It measures 17 1/2" long, has a hidden "screw" clasp and the beads are both carved and pierced. The large oval bead in the center measures almost 3/4" thick and has end caps giving it a great look. The necklace weighs 23.2 grams, has no chips or damage and is possibly made from the husks of nuts and dyed black to be worn during mourning.
